Arrived in Port Vila on March 19th, Mr. Mariani visited first the Foyer Guysajean. This care center, initiated by the AFBV (French Charity Association in Vanuatu), is intended to foster senior and semi-dependent citizens for short and long stays. The care center initially targeted residents in Vanuatu and is considering giving access to people in New Caledonia.

The MP then devoted much of his time to education and Francophonie with a visit to the Alliance Française, which allowed him to assess the French courses on offer, and the cultural and artistic attractions programmed in Port Vila and in the provinces. During his visit to the French high school Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio, Mr. Mariani also discussed with members of its management committee. He attended an award ceremony organized by the school and the AUF during the week of the Francophonie.
During a meeting with Prime Minister Moana Carcasses, Mr. Mariani spoke about the preparations for the commemoration of the centenary of the First World War.
Mr. Mariani met over lunch members of the economic committee of the embassy, which include French foreign trade advisors (CCEF) and representatives of the Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI). Settled in Vanuatu and active in different economic sectors, they shared their experiences and their views on the country potentials. Mr. Mariani was particularly interested in the local economic context and in opportunities for French contractors (infrastructure, tourism...).
At a reception held at the Residence of France, Mr. Mariani met the French community. As a repeat visitor to Vanuatu (the MP visited two more times after his first visit as Minister for Transportation in 2011), Mr. Mariani has a deep knowledge of the country and was able to interact with French citizens. He also raised awareness for the coming election for consular advisors.
